Jacuzzi

From Friuli to California, the story of the seven Jacuzzi brothers began in 1917 like many others, but it continues in an extraordinary way. From their pens and their hands came the design of pumps, propellers and even aeroplanes. In 1956, by chance, a prototype of the Jacuzzi hydromassage bath was introduced to the USA. This prototype was built to help one of Jacuzzi brothers with his rheumatoid arthritis; to cure it, his father converted a pump mechanism into a therapeutic device. In 1968 Roy Jacuzzi realised the potential of this invention and he gave it a definite shape, by designing the hydromassage system with nozzles integrated into the architecture of the bath, which is still today the basis for each new model. It was called the Roman Bath, as a tribute to the refined thermal culture of the ancient Romans.

Design and wellness for the body

Synthesize the contemporary brand Jacuzzi with its historical values represented the biggest challenge of this project. Jacuzzi's positional market values are clear and well defined, but quite difficult to transfer into new design concepts without following trends.

The most effective way to reinforce a brand and to create its own specific market is to avoid the use of industrial design as a mere style exercise, but as a strategic tool. Jacuzzi has always been synonymous with wellness and body treatment, and over time their expertise have been applied in Jacuzzi's product line. Today the competitors, at all price levels, are offering products with similar characteristics but not with Jacuzzi's historical heritage. In addition, the strong tendency to minimalism in the bathroom market has led many companies to offer "basic-functional" products for body treatment, in order to reduce visual complexity and costs.

Jacuzzi has the opportunity to exploit these factors without sacrificing its historical core competencies and focus even more on its brand values, with the aim to align their products with emerging design trends.

Sense

A romantic vision

Sense unifies minimalist trends with a "romantic" vision of the shower. This product has a soft gesture with a rigid setting that reflects the recent market trend. The raindrop shower head and its neck become iconic elements that take design cues from classic faucets while the crystal glass front maintains a geometric and contemporary language.
